Gutes Ex. - Tempio della Pittura - Sol LeWitts Walldrawings für die Kestner-Gesellschaft / In der im November 1988 zu Ende gegangenen Ausstellung des Amerikaners Sol LeWitt war alles anders, als wir es aus der Geschichte der Kestner-Gesellschaft kennen. Als die Kestner-Gesellschaft im September 1988 die Einladungen zu diesem Ereignis verschickte, existierten die angekündigten Werke noch nicht. Nun, nachdem diese Ausstellung zu Ende gegangen ist, sind eben diese Arbeiten wieder verschwunden. Sie wurden abgeschliffen, pulverisiert und übertüncht. Rückstandslos getilgt, sind sie in das imaginäre Depot zurückgekehrt, in dem die nicht materialisierten Werke Sol LeWitts einen ephemeren Aufenthalt finden. Das einzige Echo dieser Ausstellung bewahren der vorliegende Katalog mit seiner Dokumentation und die Erinnerung jener, die Sol LeWitts Walldrawings in der Kestner-Gesellschaft gesehen haben. Alles war anders in dieser Ausstellung. Die nun nur noch in unserem Gedächtnis existierende Arbeit hat nicht die Hand des Künstlers geschaffen - sie wurde von Gehilfen Sol LeWitts, die lange mit seiner Arbeit vertraut sind, an die Wand gebracht. Während diese Assistenten gewissermaßen die ausführende Hand des Künstlers verkörpern, hat Sol LeWitt diese Arbeiten konzipiert, und als Konzepte wird man die Entwurfszeichnungen zu den Walldrawings begreifen, die der Künstler mit mathematischer Präzision auf Millimeterpapier eingetragen hat. Darüber hinaus gibt es keine Dokumente der Vorbereitung oder der Veranschaulichung. Weder hat Sol LeWitt perspektivische Zeichnungen vorgelegt, die die räumliche Struktur der Ausstellungshalle und ihre Verbindung mit seinen Arbeiten skizzieren (so wie wir das von Künstlern wie Christo und Oldenburg auf eindrucksvolle Weise kennengelernt haben), noch gibt es Texte, die die Ausführung betreffende Anweisungen enthalten (wie bei Jochen Gerz oder Rebecca Hörn). Nichts dergleichen ist vorhanden. Als Unterlagen für seine Arbeit hatte der Künstler Pläne verlangt, nämlich Aufrisse und Wandabwicklungen, und aufgrund dieser im Maßstab 1 :100 angelegten Pläne hat Sol LeWitt eine systematische Beschreibung der Arbeit unternommen. Diese wurde schließlich auf Millimeterpapier eingetragen. Auf diesen diagrammatischen Entwurfszeichnungen hat LeWitt, der die Ausstellungsräume im übrigen vor der Entstehung des Werks nicht betreten hat - ebenfalls im Gegensatz zu nahezu allen anderen Künstlern, für die das Institut Ausstellungen veranstaltet hat -, die Maße der Wandfelder ebenso wie die Dimensionen der Farbstreifen in diesen Feldern angegeben. Er hat das Mischungsverhältnis jener vier Farben, mit denen er arbeitet (also Grau, Rot, Blau und Gelb) eingetragen und die Abfolge ihres Auftrags bestimmt. . Carl Haenlein. Sopra gli spalti della fortezza l'artista ha collocato nove bandiere di alluminio policromo che sorvegliano il porto vecchio come antichi vessilli mentre un grande elmo di metallo presiede l'ingresso del fortino, al cui interno si adagiano le figure in terracotta dei Dormienti, accompagnate dalla musica composta dal musicista Brian Eno.La seconda parte del catalogo è dedicata all'opera realizzata da Lewitt: All bands è un grande wall-painting formato da tessere rettangolari che combinano linee orizzontali e circolari dai colori luminosi e brillanti, "mediterranei", in una sorta di omaggio alla vocazione marinara di Bari, una sintesi tra le geometrie spigolose dell'architettura occidentale e la simbologia circolare d'Oriente.
