Osman consists of the relevant part of the Reports, vol. 1 two articles from the Guy's Hospital Reports (Hill Nos. 43, 58), the second Gulstonian Lecture (No. 31) and an appendix (No. 109). The first volume of Bright's series of case histories describes the complex of kidney disorders collectively : and eponymically known as "Bright's disease." Bright was the first to distinguish between renal and cardiac edema, and the first to link renal edema and the presence of albumin in the urine with particular structural changes in the kidneys observed postmortem. Cases and observations illustrative of renal disease accompanied with the secretion of albuminous urine(Guy's Hospital Reports, 1836, 1, 338-379). Case histories of 11 cases with a summary of his work on renal disease up to that time. Includes a fine description of the course of the disease and he notes the effects on the brain. This paper has been reprinted at various times and under various conditions. Cases and observations illustrative of renal disease accompanied with the secretion of albuminous urine. Memoir the second (Guy's Hospital Reports, 1840, 5, 101-161). The second paper on renal disease quoting 24 cases with a view of establishing the success of his treatment. "As a result of greater experience on renal disease, Richard Bright (1789-1858) rounded off his work on the subject with the above paper, wherein he recorded his extended observations, by this time he had come to more definite conclusions, especially with regard to the treatment of the condition." Goulstonian Lectures on the functions of the abdominal viscera with observations on the diagnostic marks of the diseases to which the viscera are subject (London Medical Gazette, 1833, 12, 281, 312, 345, 378, 411). Mentions briefly a case of generalized scleroderma (page 415). He also refers to his work on renal disease and concludes this section with, "My conviction is complete between the three facts-anascara, coaguable urine and diseased function going on to diseased structure of the kidney.! He also discusses fatty stools in disease of the pancreas. "At another point in his Gulstonian Lectures he observes that a palpable gall bladder "will generally be found to indicate diseases of the pancreas itself, or of the absorbent glands lying upon it, near its union with the duodenum; and the opening of the common duct is in these cases not infrequently obliterated."
