It started with 5000 volunteers from Kentucky, and after 9 major Battles, near the end of the war, they were down to 900 survivors. They were given the name Orphan Brigade, because they were from a neutral State and thus could enlist no reinforcements. This is Johnny Green's story, as he fought in the unit throughout the war, and lived until 1920. Some historic pictures interspersed. The book is in great shape.
