It does not claim to conclude and must be considered as a development, to date, of the studies in progress. Taking large account of all the publications dealing with the former Chadian populations and, in the first place, the enigmatic Sao, it brings together the results of the systematic work carried out between July 1936 and July 1948 during three scientific expeditions, the Sahara-Cameroon Missions, Niger-Lake Iro, and Logone-Iac Fitri.
