Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. Contents: Foreword. Introduction. Taxonomic treatments: 1. Lycopodiaceae. 2. Selaginellaceae. 3. Isoetaceae. 4. Equisetaceae. 5. Psilotaceae. 6. Ophioglossaceae. 7. Marattiaceae. 8. Osmundaceae. 9. Plagiogyriaceae. 10. Dipteridaceae. 11. Gleicheniaceae. 12. Lygodiaceae. 13. Schizaeaceae. 14. Marsileaceae. 15. Marsileaceae. 16. Cyatheaceae. 17. Dicksoniaceae. 18. Hymenophyllaceae. 19. Dennstaedtiaceae. 20. Lindsaeaceae. 21. Pteridaceae. 22. Vittariaceae. 23. Aspleniaceae. 24. Thelypteridaceae. Ferns and fern-allies are especially well represented in India and are conspicuous almost everywhere by their beautiful and intricately varied foliage. Yet this fascinating group of plants is often rather widely misunderstood due to their great complexity in the area and to a considerable degree of variation, with many erroneous accounts having been published on them in the past. In addition, the last published book covering the whole of India accurately was a Nineteenth Century work, and since then nearly all names of genera and even the majority of species have changed, while some more recent Census-lists have been beset by inaccuracies and errors to the point of being unreliable. Ongoing modern research both in India and abroad has revealed the existence of many more species than were known before, while a huge number of names in use in various works have proved to be synonyms, mere redescriptions of species already known. The present work in two parts has incorporated and evaluated modern research and has set out the whole spectrum of Indian ferns as known today, detailing their types, synonyms and carefully revised distribution as researched both in the field in and around the region, and in the world's herbaria, involving re-identification and verification of specimens over many decades of research by the specialist authors. Notes concerning misidentifications or taxonomic and nomenclatural problems are provided in situ under each species or genus. Part 1 covers the families from Lycophytes through to Thelypteridaceae, in taxonomic order, and the forthcoming part 2 covers the large advanced and critical families from Woodsiaceae to the end of the taxonomic series. It is planned subsequently to present a descriptive volume followed by a photographic volume to complete the set. In addition to aiming to produce a detailed and comprehensively accurate account of these plants, many new revisions at species and some at generic level have also been made in the book itself, while setting out to maintain the important balance between molecular and morphological concepts of taxa. It is hoped that stability of names and concepts along with indication of modern directions of research in various groups may result from the present work, which is intended to provide a comprehensive basis for present and future fern-study, cataloguing and identification relevant to the fern-flora of the whole of Asia (jacket).

The Indian state of Meghalaya is notable for its biodiversity of mammals, birds and plants including the ferns and fern-allies, with a geographical area of 22,429 km2, of which 17,275 km2 is under forest cover. Due to the diverse climatic and topographic conditions, the state harbours a large number of Lycophytes and ferns (Pteridophytes). As far as the study of pteridophytes is concerned, the fern-flora needs updating to comply with modern taxonomic revision. This pictorial guide on the pteridophytes of Meghalaya has been prepared with the objective of creating awareness among common people, researchers, Pteridophyte-growers, horticulturalists and gardeners, students, foresters and others involved in studying various aspects of the pteridophytic taxa of the state including their conservation. The book contain 491 taxa of ferns and fern allies, belonging to 93 genera and 33 families, of which, 539 photographs related to 263 taxa have been given. The updated nomenclature, distribution and phenological data provided in this checklist are adopted form recent published literature and are also based our own observation in the field. The authors feel that further additions would be possible with further botanical exploration of various unexplored and under-explored areas of Meghalaya, which will contribute to the completeness of revisionary work of Indian ferns.
