Januar 1981 in Preinersdorf am Chiemsee) war ein deutscher Künstler. / Karl Fred Dahmen, actually Karl Friedrich Dahmen (born November 4, 1917 in Stolberg (Rhineland); + January 12, 1981 in Preinersdorf am Chiemsee) was a German artist. -> Bei Karl Fred Dahmen ist der Einfluss des Informel schon in seinen Bildern der frühen Werkphase zu finden. Das Frühwerk des Künstlers beinhaltet neben tachistisch orientierten Bildern auch Holzcollagen. Ab Mitte der sechziger Jahre integrierte Dahmen zunehmend verschiedene Gegenstände in seine Bilder; es entstanden Materialbilder und Objektkästen, mit denen Dahmen ähnliche Ziele wie die Nouveaux Réalistes verfolgte, nämlich eine Rückbindung des Kunstwerkes an das Leben über reale Dinge. Seine Münchner Professur veranlasste Karl Fred Dahmen, sich 1967 in Niederham im Chiemgau niederzulassen, dessen Landschaft sein großes Reservoir wurde (Telelandschaften). In diese Polsterbilder montierte er später Fundstücke aus der Gegend und gestaltete damit symbolhafte Monumente, die der Schönheit zuwiderliefen (Galgenbilder, Chiemgaulegende). In seinen letzten Jahren malte Dahmen helle, stille Bilder voller Chiffren und Notationen. / In the case of Karl Fred Dahmen, the influence of Informel can already be found in his pictures from the early phase of his work. In addition to tachistically oriented images, the artist's early work also includes wooden collages. From the mid-sixties onwards, Dahmen increasingly integrated various objects into his pictures; Material pictures and object boxes were created with which Dahmen pursued similar goals to the Nouveaux Réalistes , namely a connection between the work of art and life through real things. His Munich professorship led Karl Fred Dahmen to settle in Niederham im Chiemgau in 1967, whose landscape became his great reservoir (Telelandschaften). He later mounted finds from the area into these upholstered pictures and used them to create symbolic monuments that ran counter to the beauty (gallows pictures, Chiemgau legend). In his last years, Dahmen painted bright, quiet pictures full of ciphers and notations.

"The Adolescent Comedy" was also Sterling's original title for the sequence.
