Aggiungi al carrelloOriginal Red Cloth Hardback. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. 1904. First edition in two volumes. x, 419pp. 16 plates, 2 illustrations within the text and a title page vignette in volume 1. ix, 360pp., 9 plates and a title page vignette plus a 40 page publisher's catalogue in volume 2. Colonel John Anstruther Thomson (1818-1904) was the son of John Anstruther Thomson (1776-1833), a Scottish nobleman and Colonel of the Royal Fifeshire Yeomanry Cavalry. In these two volumes of reminiscences he tell something of his early life, and much more about his hunting experiences, but the principal interest proibably comes from his militray recollections. These include accounts of the 9th Lancers, the Crimea, the Fife Mounted Rifles, and the Fife Yeomanry in South Africa. The books are uniformly bound in red cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and gold titling with an emblem and facsimile signature on the front boards. The cases of the books are in very good condition with shelf wear and some light soiling on the boards. The spine ends are bumped and the spine of volume 1 is slightly faded. There is a little damage to the cloth on the top edge of both rear boards. The contents are tight and clean with some soiling on page v of volume 2. The half-title page of volume 1 has been flatsigned by the author with the wording 'To be returned' written below it (probably by another hand). The second front free endpaper of volume 1 has an inscription written in a very similar hand to the author's. It appears to rerad: "To F. Lumsden in memory of Col Anstruther Thomson of Charleton October 1904 from ?.A.?." PLEASE NOTE: Heavy books so extra will be needed for shipping to non-UK customers. Signed by the author.
