The Potsdamer Platz train station and the office block in the Beisheim Centre in Ebertstrass…e, close to this central and now revitalised location, are two significant projects that were designed by the firm in the prevalent spirit of urban renewal of those years.After the millennium, the architects further honed their approach: whether in the city or the countryside, Modersohn and Freiesleben consistently develop the character of their projects in terms of the site, the materials, the construction, and the lives of their clients. Their deliberate engagement with the given environment while simultaneously aiming at an inventive individuality has created an architecture that ensures their houses are functional objects that combine sustainability with aesthetics.This new monograph features 12 built houses alongside other projects from the last two decades. Als Paula Becker 1899 den wesentlich älteren Otto Modersohn kennenlernt, ist sie eine junge, ehrgeizige Künstlerin, die um jeden Preis malen will, er dagegen ist längst anerkannt, einer der Gründer der Künstlerkolonie in Worpswede… und außerdem verheiratet. Trotz dieser Widrigkeiten ist die gegenseitige Anziehung unübersehbar, und ein Jahr später werden die beiden ein Paar. Schon die ersten Briefe, die sie während Paula Beckers Reisen nach Berlin und Paris wechseln, zeugen von der großen Zuneigung der beiden, aber auch von ihrer tiefen Verbundenheit im künstlerischen Schaffen. In den späteren Jahren dient der schriftliche Austausch immer wieder dazu, sich über Malerei und das Formulieren der künstlerischen Ziele auseinanderzusetzen. Und nicht zuletzt gibt es Anekdoten aus dem Worpsweder Freundeskreis zu erzählen, und Paula Becker berichtet amüsiert vom Ehevorbereitungskurs in Berlin. Der überraschende Fund eines Großteils der Briefe Otto Modersohns an Paula Modersohn-Becker, die lange Jahre als verschollen galten, macht es hier erstmals möglich, diesen lebendigen Austausch ausführlich zu beleuchten .

Neuware - When Antje Freiesleben and Johannes Modersohn opened their own Berlin-based firm Modersohn & Freiesleben Architekten in 1994, the city, which had been divided until 1989, needed to be repaired and re-united. The Potsdamer Platz train station and the office block in the Beisheim Centre in E…bertstrasse, close to this central and now revitalized location, are two significant projects that were designed by the firm in the prevalent spirit of urban renewal of those years. After the millennium, the architects further honed their approach: whether in the city or the countryside, Modersohn & Freiesleben consistently develop the character of their projects in terms of the site, the materials, the construction, and the lives of their clients. Their deliberate engagement with the given environment while simultaneously aiming at an inventive individuality has created an architecture that ensures their houses are functional objects that combine sustainability with aesthetics. This new monograph features twelve built houses alongside other projects from the last two decades. Nach der Jahrtausendwende schärften die Architekten ihre Haltung: Ob Häuser in der Stadt oder auf dem Land - Modersohn & Freiesleben entwickeln den Charakter ihrer Projekte stets aus den Aufgaben Ort, Material, Konstruktion und dem Leben ihrer Bauherren. Der bewusste Umgang mit der vorgefundenen Umgebung bei gleichzeitiger entwerferischer Selbstständigkeit schafft eine Architektur, die dem Haus als Gebrauchsgegenstand Alltagstauglichkeit und Schönheit verleiht. Diese neue Monografie präsentiert zwölf gebaute Häuser des Büros und weitere Projekte aus den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten. Sie stehen in Berlin - sowie in Brandenburg, Schweden und Kanada.
