Einband leicht berieben, Fleck auf der Rückseite des Titelblatts, sonst gut und sehr sauber. - Vorwort von Ise Gropius: Die Ausstellung des Lebenswerkes von Walter Gropius kam durch die Mitarbeit vieler privater und öffentlicher Stellen zustande, denen ich an dieser Stelle meinen wärmsten Dank aussprechen möchte. Der erste Anstoß zu dieser Ausstellung erfolgte durch die Initiative der Architektengemeinschaft »The Architects Collaborative«, deren Mitbegründer Walter Gropius war. Sie stellte für amerikanische Architekturschulen eine Wanderausstellung der Arbeiten, die von Gropius im Rahmen von TAC seit 1945 entworfen und ausgeführt worden waren, zusammen. Diese Ausstellung wurde auf Wunsch der Galleria d'Arte del Naviglio in Mailand durch die Arbeiten seit 1928 dem Jahr, in dem Gropius das Bauhaus verlassen hat erweitert und im März 1970 in Mailand und anschließend in Athen, Nicosia und Darmstadt gezeigt. Als später Anfragen nach einer Ausstellung des Gesamtwerkes aus verschiedenen Städten Europas kamen, gewährten die Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts und der Berliner Senat die entscheidende finanzielle Unterstützung, mit der die notwendige Ergänzung des Ausstellungsmaterials und ein detaillierter Katalog in Angriff genommen werden konnten. Die Texte zu den einzelnen Objekten wurden unter Beratung von TAC-Mitgliedern und in Mitarbeit des Verlages des Massachusetts Institute for Technology, Cambridge, Mass. (M. I. T.) in deutscher und englischer Sprache zusammengestellt. Die Herstellung eines Großteils der Fototafeln, die Redaktion und der Druck des Katalogmaterials wurden vom Bauhaus-Archiv Darmstadt vorgenommen, das auch die Vertretung dieser Wanderausstellung in Europa übernommen hat. Die großzügige Hilfe des Berliner Senators für Wissenschaft und Kunst hat es ermöglicht, Berlin, den Geburtsort von Walter Gropius, zum Ausgangspunkt dieser Wanderausstellung zu machen und ich bin überzeugt, daß dies dem Wunsch Walter Gropius entsprochen hätte.
