The curious thing was that he had not only written an early draft of the last part of the walk, but that it predated the other two. It remained unfinished but 'The Broken Road', edited and introduced by Colin Thubron and Artemis Cooper, Leigh Fermor's literary executors, completes an extraordinary journey. Patrick Leigh Fermor was widely regarded as 'Britain's greatest living travel writer' during his lifetime, A BBC journalist once described him as 'a cross between Indiana Jones, James Bond and Graham Greene.'
