It shows the boyishly handsome, lean, muscular, and well-endowed David Ashfield at the peak of his beauty in one of his most beautiful poses, a full-frontal, fully erect shot. Why beautiful? According to Peter Hujar, the (still controversial) erection is the human male body in its most beautiful state. It is the "middle" state between normal/"soft" and orgasmic/"explosive", when the human male, not just the body, becomes "state-less", however fleetingly.
