A. von Hübner (1811-92), commissario straordinario a Milano per nomina dell'Arciduca Ranieri, arrestato dagli insorti durante la rivoluzione di Milano del '48 e poi liberato, grande viaggiatore e storico. L'opera è in realtà in gran parte dedicata agli Stati Uniti e alla nazione americana, agli albori del suo grande sviluppo e nella sua espansione verso Ovest. Significative sono le parti dedicate a Salt Lake City, capitale dei Mormoni, e alle grandi regioni minerarie. La parte centrale è dedicata al Giappone, e gli ultimi capitoli alla Cina, con grande attenzione agli aspetti militari, politici ed economici di questi paesi. Ricchissima la parte illustrativa, tra cui le 77 belle tavv. f.t. (alcune impresse su fondo giallino).
