Later (ca 1940s), red half-leather binding with marbled boards and four raised bands, original printed wrappers preserved. Spine somewhat faded, the printed wrappers soiled and worn but restored at the time of the binding, interior with some slight occasional foxing, else fine.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. 368pp including 45 engravings, one of which is to the frontispiece, plus one map in black and white following page 350. Boards are a deep red in colour; spine has five raised bands with decorative motifs between each band, and gilt titles. Gilt page-edges. Silk endpapers. Boards are worn through to the four open corners and to part of rear open edge. Sporadic foxing but, apart from that to frontispiece, the engravings are unaffected. Crease to top-right of pages 207 and 209 as a result of the pages having been folded at some point of time. Title-page is dated 1886 with no mention of a later edition so is presumably a first edition. Text in French.
