Aggiungi al carrelloCondizione: Fair. Alfred Hierl (illustratore). 1st Edition, Special Edition. Seldom Seen, Original Mercedes-Benz 1937 Third Reich Victory Poster Serial Number 6908. 1037, X. Featuring Great Britain's First Grand Prix Driver, Richard Seaman, pictured with his Mercedes-Benz W154 Donington Park 2nd October 1937 LOT DESCRIPTION, PLEASE READ Designed as a piece of Nazi party-political propaganda by Adolf Hitlers Wehrmacht, this extremely rare official "Victory Poster" was published by Mercedes-Benz in October 1937 to celebrate the "Silver Arrows" dominance of the 1937 Grand Prix racing season. This is the first British Grand Prix racing drivers poster ever published for the British market by Mercedes-Benz. Richard Seaman had signed a provisional contract with the team in December 1936 following successful tests at the Nürburgring in November of that year. But his appointment famously required the personal approval of Adolf Hitler, which was granted before the finalization of his role as a works driver for the 1937 season. Adolf Hitler's government had funded Mercedes-Benz racing programme for six years, from 1933 until the outbreak of World War II in 1939. After taking power, Hitler paid an annual 500,000 Reichsmark (RM) stipend to Mercedes-Benz to help showcase German industrial superiority through Grand Prix racing. This state sponsorship birthed the legendary "Silver Arrows" racing cars, which dominated European Grand Prix racing from 1934 to 1939. While racing subsidies had been Hitler's most public form of support, Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union (later Audi) enjoyed massive government contracts for rearmament through 1945. In 1937, marketing and sales operations at Daimler-Benz AG (the parent company) were overseen by Wilhelm Kissel, who was appointed as the company's first Chairman of the Board of Management on 1st October 1937. Having served a commercial apprenticeship at Mannheim Commercial College, Kissel would go on to direct Mercedes-Benz strategic shift in 1937 toward military production and armament, while still maintaining the brand's luxury image. Kissel outsourced significant advertising work to Tauentzien-Verlag, an agency owned by Georg Niedermeier, which managed high-profile campaigns for models like the 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540K. This poster doubles as a fold-out luxury brochure for the Mercedes-Benz 540K and others, their London based sales office located at 110 Park Lane, W1 and their works depot situated at 111 Grosvenor Road, Victoria SW1. The poster is emblazoned with the official Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star and adjacent to their branding is a list of Mercedes-Benz 1937 Grand Prix season successes. DIMENSIONS Poster sized approximately 185 x 265mm when folded. Opens out to approximately 370 x 460mm. Printed on both sides. Weight approximately 23 grams prior to packaging. CONDITION Please refer to the many large photographs provided which are of the actual item you are buying. SIDE ONE: Features a monochrome titled photograph of British racing driver Richard Seaman sized approximately 220 x 190mm entitled "R. Seaman at Donington" Three technical illustrations in tinted monochrome accompany a comprehensive price list in Pound Sterling for Mercedes-Benz British market cars types 170V, 170H, 230, 260D (Diesel), 320 and 540 Supercharged. SIDE TWO: Four illustrations, one per panel, in full-colour artwork of Types 170V Saloon, 230 Cabriolet B, 320 The Pullman Limousine (Long Chassis), and 540K Cabriolet A, with titles and descriptions and technical data for Types 170V, 170H Rear Engined, 230, 320 and 540 Supercharged. Published on a light stock, reads "Printed in Germany" with serial number 6908. 1037, X. factory printed on footer. In reasonable condition but with PLENTY OF VISIBLE WEAR AND TEAR including creasing, folds, bumps, surface scuffs, staining, foxing, discoloration and some light separation hence SOLD AS SEEN offered WITHOUT PROVENANCE, nevertheless an extremely rare and important pre WWII MERCEDES-BENZ artifact.
