De diversiteit van het gezelschap maakt duidelijk hoe breed het speelveld en de maatschappelijke achterban van het Instituut in deze veertig jaar geworden zijn. De bijdragen zijn van: prof. mr. dr. M.A.B. Chao-Duivis, prof. mr. M.A.M.C. van den Berg en prof. mr. drs. B.P.M. van Ravels. Na een korte schets over de activiteiten van het Instituut voor Bouwrecht neemt Monika Chao de lezer mee terug in de geschiedenis. Tal van onderwerpen die ons vandaag de dag bezighouden zoals het aanbestedingsrecht, de totstandkoming en inhoud van de overeenkomst met de aannemer en zelfs het auteursrecht van de architect blijken in de periode 900-1900 de gemoederen al bezig gehouden te hebben. De tweede bijdrage is van de hand van Matton van den Berg en heeft betrekking op het privaatrechtelijk bouwcontractenrecht. Van den Berg schetst recente ontwikkelingen op dit terrein, die hij stevig verankert in het gewone privaatrecht. Hij beperkt zich daarbij niet tot het contractenrecht sec, maar betrekt bij zijn bijdrage met name de precontractuele en postcontractuele fasen. Fasen waarbij het bouwrecht vaak richtingwijzer is geweest voor de ontwikkelingen in het gemene recht. De derde bijdrage is van Bruno van Ravels en is gewijd aan de (on)mogelijkheden van vergoeding van planologische schade. Van Ravels analyseert de factoren die onder de oude WRO bepaalden en onder de nieuwe Wro zullen bepalen, of en zo ja in hoeverre een aanvrager aanspraak kan maken op vergoeding van planschade. De lezer wordt een gedegen en becommentarieerd overzicht geboden van uitspraken die de Afdeling bestuursrechtspraak van de Raad van State de laatste jaren omtrent toepassing van artikel 49 WRO heeft gedaan.
