Sohn des Pfarrers Ernst Friedrich Anton Augusti und Enkel eines Rabbiner, wurde am 27. Oktober des Jahres 1771 in Eschenberga geboren. Er besuchte ein Gymnasium in Gotha und studierte ab 1790 an der Universität Jena. Acht Jahre später, 1798, wurde er an der gleichen Universität Privatdozent. Außerordentlicher Professor der Philosophie wurde Johann Augusti 1800. 1803 ordentlicher Professor der Orientalischen Sprachen. 1808 promovierte er an der Universität Rinteln zum Doktor der Theologie. Von 1812 bis 1819 war er als Professor der Theologie an der Universität Breslau, ab 1819 an der Universität zu Bonn tätig. Large 4to (299 x 353 mm). XII, (32) ff., 18 pp. Printed on vellum throughout. Greek type in imitation of Alexandrian uncials, with Roman type and a second Greek type for the introduction and notes. Contemporary English blue morocco over thick boards, unsigned but almost certainly by Charles Lewis, richly panelled and decorated in gilt, with wide roll-tooled borders to covers, spine richly gilt, blue morocco doublures with richly gilt borders and inlaid panels of watered yellow silk, watered yellow silk endpapers. All edges gilt. A magnificently produced vellum issue of Baber's facsimile of the Alexandrian Psalter, and one of only seventeen copies so printed, according to the list of subscribers. This is an especially desirable copy, preserved in a sumptuous contemporary English morocco binding and bearing the distinguished provenances of Syston Park, William Henry Smith, and Estelle Doheny. - The edition reproduces in letterpress the Psalms of the Codex Alexandrinus, the celebrated fifth-century Greek Bible manuscript now in the British Library, one of the oldest extant witnesses of the Greek scriptures. The type was specially designed to emulate the manuscript's Alexandrian uncials, translating the authority of one of Christianity's great codices into an ambitious exercise in early 19th-century scholarly and typographical exactitude. Baber, then Keeper of Printed Books at the British Museum, stands at the centre of the institution's early biblical scholarship. The present publication anticipates his later multi-volume edition of the Old Testament text of the Codex Alexandrinus and belongs to the moment when the Museum began to disseminate its greatest manuscript treasures through monumental printed surrogates. The typography is itself part of the book's significance. The Greek types, associated with the work of Joseph Jackson, were devised to imitate the ancient hand with unusual fidelity, making the volume both a landmark of learned facsimile production and a defining example of English display printing in the service of textual scholarship. - The final 18 pages gather variant readings of the Alexandrian manuscript against the Roman edition of the Vatican Septuagint of 1587, so that the publication unites visual facsimile and editorial scholarship with bibliographical grandeur. (11716) Prima parte su 4 (contenente la Genesi, l'Esodo, il Levitico, il Deuteronomio, i Numeri, etc.), ristampata con la date del 1529, di questa rara edizione del testo greco della Bibbia, apparsa nel 1524-26, cronologicamente la terza, curata dall'umanista Johannes Leonicer (1499-1569), che riprende l'edizione aldina del 1518 (cronologicamente la seconda, o per alcuni la prima), con alcune integrazioni. Essa fu impressa dal Köpfel in nitidi caratteri, assai minuti, con le sue caratteristiche marche tipografiche. Come correttore per il greco lo stampatore Köpfel impiegò il futuro stampatore Peter Braubach (1500-1567). ÖBL I, 29 (bei Arneth).- Prämienband für das Jahr 1840 für den Novizen im Stift St. Florian Ignaz Hennerbichler, gewidmet vom Propst Prälat Michael Arneth (1771-1859). Möglicherweise waren Hennerbichler und der junge Anton Bruckner Kollegen im Stift St. Florian. Der Propst Arneth nahm 1837 den kleinen Anton Bruckner bei den Sängerknaben auf, obwohl der Knabe seitens der Stiftsverwaltung zunächst abgewiesen wurde. Bis 1840 blieb Bruckner in St. Florian, um dann für weitere Studien nach Linz wechseln. Im Jahr 1851 berief Arneth Anton Bruckner zum definitiven Stiftsorganisten in St. Florian. Zwei hs. Blätter vor dem Titel eingebunden mit folgendem Wortlaut: I) "Ex dono Reverndissimi, Perillustris ac Amplissimi Domini, Domini Michaelis II.
