Für die Entstehung, Aufrechterhaltung und Veränderung des Sozialen haben sie eine w…eitaus größere Bedeutung als dies im allgemeinen angenommen wurde. Zu einem besseren Verständnis der sozialen Bedeutung von Ritualen beizutragen, ist das Ziel dieser Untersuchung. Sie geht davon aus, daß Kontinuität beanspru chende soziale Prozesse häufig als Rituale inszeniert und aufgeführt werden. Als rituelle Handlungen werden soziale Prozesse bezeichnet, die nach Inten tion, Inhalt und Kontext sehr unterschiedlich sein können. Zur Erforschung ritueller Situationen ist es daher erforderlich, mehrdimensionale Konzepte rituellen Handeins zu entwickeln. Dabei muß von einem grundsätzlich nicht einholbaren Bedeutungsüberschuß ritueller Prozesse ausgegangen werden, der in ihrem körperlichen und performativen Charakter sowie in ihrer Einge bundenheit in historische und kulturelle Kontexte begründet liegt. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind pädagogische Ethnografie, Ritualforschung sowie interkulturelle Erziehung. Rituale sind produktiv. Wurden sie bislang zumeist unterAspekten der Stereotypie,Rigidität und Gewalt thematisiert, konzentriertsich die vorliegende Untersuchung auf diejenigen Momente von Ritualen, die Gemeinschaften hervorbringen und gestalten. Rituale dienen hierbei der Gemeinschaft als Medium, Differenzen zu erzeugen und zu bearbeiten, Krisen zu bewältigen und Übergänge zu strukturieren.Die ethnographisch angelegte Studie zeigt, wie sich soziale Beziehungen in performativen Prozessen von Ritualen und Ritualisierungen bilden. In diesem Sinne liegt der Fokus auf der Dramaturgie und Organisation ritueller Interaktionen und ihrer Effekte, der szenisch-mimetischen Expressivität, dem Aufführungs- und Inszenierungscharakter und dem praktischen Wissen sozialen Handelns.Vier zentrale Sozialisationsfelder performativen rituellen Handelns werden analysiertder Lebensraum der Familie, die Übergänge im Schulalltag, die Pausenspiele von Kindern und die Medieninszenierungen von Peergroups. Darüber hinaus wird das rituelle Handeln als praktisches mimetisches Wissen besimmt sowie die Stadt als performativer Raum charakterisiert.
