Les volumes sont datés respectivement comme suit : 1837, 1837, 1832, 1834, 1836. Le volume cinquième a été continué par le Dr. Ch. Aubée. Rare et très estimé ouvrage du comte Dejean (Amiens, 1780 - Paris, 1845) qui réussit à la charnière du XVIIIe et du XIXe siècle à être un général participant à toutes les grandes batailles de l'Empire, y compris Waterloo, et aussi un entomologiste renommé, spécialiste des coléoptères. Il constitua une collection de coléoptères unique en Europe, récoltés au cours de ses campagnes en Espagne, au Portugal, en Russie, en Allemagne et ensuite pendant son exil (1815-1818) dans les provinces autrichiennes de Carinthie, de Carniole, de Croatie et de Dalmatie. Son catalogue final de 1837 en dénombre plus de 22000 espèces identifiées. A l'échelle des coléoptères, Dejean fait oeuvre considérable : Dès son retour en France, il s'attelle à une "Histoire naturelle et iconographique des Coléoptères d'Europe", puis ambitionne un 'Species général des Coléoptères" en vingt volumes et enfin fait paraitre au cours des années 1830 les cinq volumes de "Iconographie et histoire naturelle des Coléoptères en Europe". Après avoir dispersé sa collection exceptionnelle, il présida la Société entomologique de France en 1840. Dos des reliures arrachés ou en mauvais, pages de garde roussies, rousseurs éparses et mouillures en coin dans les premières pages des tomes 2 et 3 sans conséquences pour un intérieur très correct, planches en bon état et complètes.
