Prima edizione (First Edition). . Bit International documenta un breve ma intenso esperimento artistico che ha avuto luogo in Jugoslavia negli Anni Sessanta. Si tratta di una storia poco conosciuta che riguarda l'avvento dei computer nell'arte e un movimento nato nel 1961 a Zagabria, in Jugoslavia. È stato grazie alle attività di quel movimento, noto come New Tendencies, e dell'istituzione che lo sosteneva, la Galerija suvremene umjetnosti, che il computer è stato adottato come strumento e mezzo artistico. Perseguendo l'idea dell'?arte come ricerca visiva?, il movimento New Tendencies ha seguito un percorso che ha portato dall'arte concreta e costruttivista, all'Op art e all'arte cinetica con i suoi apparati dinamici, alla grafica, al cinema e alla scultura generati dal computer, dall'?arte programmata? senza computer all'arte generata o controllata dai computer.Con le loro mostre e conferenze sul tema dei computer e della ricerca visiva e il lancio della rivista multilingue e innovativa Bit International nel 1968, le Nuove Tendenze trasformarono Zagabria, già uno dei centri artistici più vivaci della Jugoslavia, in un luogo di incontro internazionale dove artisti, ingegneri e scienziati provenienti da entrambi i lati della cortina di ferro si riunivano attorno alla tecnologia allora nuova. Per un breve periodo, Zagabria è stata l'epicentro dell'esplorazione del potenziale estetico, scientifico e politico del computer.
