Bowker was a sailing author, publisher and journalist, but sadly I have been able to find out very little about him. Quite a scarce book.

William Bligh's log was written before the Mutiny on the HM Bounty in 1789. He maintained his official log daily from 1787 to 1789. The mutineers allowed him to keep the log when he left in the open boat, and upon his return, it was archived in Admiralty records. The logs are compulsive and fascinating reading.
