In surveying the city"s major sites, including temples, palaces, gardens and walls, the author interweaves accounts of their cultural significance, legends and ceremonial functions. Written by Juliet Bredon, who lived in China for many years and released several works on her experiences there. In the publisher's original orange silk binding. Externally, reasonably smart with notable fraying and loss of cloth, most prominent to bottom edge and spine head and tail. Cloth generally a little marked and discoloured. Internally, firmly bound. A few of the maps, including the one to the rear, are subtly more delicate with one or two tears.
