Originally published in 1881 with a further edition in 1890. The spine is slightly faded with a little surface discolouration. Light rubbing to the corners. There is some browning and light spotting to the page edges. The front free endpaper has the bookplate of Anthony Edwards, Life Fellow of Gonville & Caius College and retired Professor of Biometry at the University of Cambridge. This book was part of his collection of Cambridge books which was a reflection of his keen and active interest in the governance of the Collegiate University. There is another ownership note to the front pastedown and the endpapers are browned. The pages have some spotting in several places but are generally clean and unmarked. Illustrated by A. Brunet Debaines, H. Toussaint and A. E. Pearce. No jacket. First printing.
