I am glad you think the plan a good one and I am entirely with you in thinking that it is one of the best deserved memorials of all times. I think perhaps the enclosed reprint of my presidential address will interest you." Also included is a copy of the original typed letter signed by Austin Chamberlain and George Carmichael Low, 1 page, 10 x 7.5 inches, London, March 3, 1930, to Dr. MacCallum, notifying him of "the proposed memorial to Sir Patrick Manson to whom, directly or indirectly, we owe so much of the prosperity of our Empire." Scottish physician and parasitologist who, in 1900, became the first scientist to prove that mosquitoes pass on parasites from person to person during the act of biting. He contributed heavily to the cause of Sleeping Sickness through his research on his first Ugandan Exposition. In 1901, while in the West Indies, he confirmed that Filaria (a small worm) transmitted by mosquitoes, was the cause of Elephantiasis. In 1907 he formed the Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene with Sir Patrick Manson.
