Lazare Nicolas Marguerite Carnot (1753-1823) était un mathématicien, un physicien, un général et un homme politique français. Il est considéré comme l'un des créateurs de la géométrie moderne. Ses découvertes ont été publiées dans trois ouvrages : De la corrélation des figures de géométrie (1801), Géométrie de position (1803), Essai sur le théorie des transversales (1806). Son nom est principalement resté attaché au théorème qui apparaît dans notre ouvrage et qui constitue une généralisation d'un ancien résultat de Menelaüs d'Alexandrie. Avec une "Digression sur la nature des quantités dites négatives" en fin de volume. L'ex-libris "M.
