The contents (pages) are fair to good, but the covers are very worn and rubbed, with the front board detached and the rear board held by one thread; the spine leather very dessicated. Contents all present but many pages browned or grubby, first engraving has an old stain from red wax over it, second one repaired tear; original owner's name in various places and date (Nicholas and Wm Greaves, 1782, Bakewell).

Dryden translated a number of Juvenal's satires himself, and selected others, including his sons Charles and John, to translate the rest. The Persius satires are all by Dryden, with an introductory letter by Congreve.
