On 26th November 1838 his observations were read before the Ashmolean Society, Oxford and were subsequently published in 1839. Daubeny's observations, based on his travels in 1837, represent an early scientific attempt to understand the geology of the United States and Canada. His work provides a snapshot of the geological landscape during a period when North America was still being actively explored and mapped. It offers valuable insights into the natural resources, geological formations, and thermal springs, which were of great interest to both geologists and naturalists of the 19th century.The publication includes an engraved map, Map of the United States and Canada which covers the Western Territory and northeast Texas to the Atlantic coast and from Nova Scotia to Florida, which presents a depiction of the United States and Canada at a time of rapid territorial expansion.
