Plain dark navy blue cloth texture boards stamped in gilt on the spine, in very good condition with very light corner wear and a touch of fading along the top half inch. The dust jacket is near fine with a few surface scuffs. An illustrated journal written by a Russian lady about her life in Russia, before the revolution. A unique first person window into this time, usually only seen through the lens of Tolstoy, Chekhov and a few other writers from the late 19th century. The author had studied painting in Russia before she fled with her sister in 1919, leaving everything, including her watercolors of her life in Russia. She later wrote this journal, reproducing her earlier paintings from memory, as a legacy for her own daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren. These are beautifully rendered watercolors with image of people's lives in Russia, before the revolution, accompanied by Davydoff's written memoirs.
