Condizione: Very Good. An enormously large 1879 edition of Random Drawings of Darlingtonian Doings by John Dinsdale. In excellent condition for its age. Bindings strong & sturdy, pages are all in excellent shape as are the large covers. An extremely unusual piece, full of the most intricate drawings of pastimes & hobbies of the population of Darlington in the north east of England during the 19th century. Cloth. Condizione: Very Good. John Dinsdale (illustratore). A scarce copy of this charming collection of late nineteenth century illustrations of Scarborough. This work is a charming collection of illustrations by John Dinsdale, showing life in Scarborough in the late nineteenth century. Some of the illustrations include a portrait of Lord Derwent, 'Entrance to Cliff Gardens', 'Looking South from Saloon', 'Entrance to Aquarium', 'The Sunday Promenade', 'The Twice-a-Day Whirligig', and 'North Cliff from Saloon'. Dinsdale was an artist who contributed his illustrations to 'Punch', 'Illustrated London News', and 'Girls' Own Paper'. He also published 'Sketches of London', and 'Sketches of Scarborough'. This work is dedicated to Lord Derwent. Derwent was a Baron and a member of the Liberal party, succeeding the MP seat from his father. Undated, dated using Copac. Collated using Copac, complete. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with pictorial paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Light markings to the boards has caused a little discolouration due to the light colour. A little light fading to the rear board. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light fold to the front endpaper. Rear hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with the odd scattered spot, mostly to the first few pages. Very Good. book.

Lacking half of front board, otherwise in very good condition. A special commemorative program and literary album published to support the Chelsea Hospital for Women and sold at a huge 1884 fundraiser held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Binding square and sound in spite of loss to right hand half of upper, lower corners and spine panel. Light spotting to preliminaries. Text block otherwise unmarked featuring original literary prose, poetry, illustrations (by Walter Crane, John Dinsdale, W. Weekes, F. Goodall, Mrs Houghton and more) and music submitted by prominent artists and writers of the Victorian era plus c.65 pp. of contemporary advertisements to the rear. Laid in is a contemporary Bank Order for donations. Edited by J.S. Wood, the hospital's secretary at the time. Printed by George Falkener & Sons, Art printers.
