L'arithmétique alternative, ce n'est pas si étrange : les mathématiques "black" sont déjà d'usage depuis longtemps aux Etats-Unis. En Belgique, les mathématiques multiculturelles sont plutôt méconnues, malgré les liens historiques avec le Congo. Toutefois, l'Institut royal des Sciences naturelles de Belgique (IRSNB) et le Musée royal d'Afrique centrale (MRAC) de Tervuren possèdent des collections particulières, et une visite mathématique s'y impose. En plus, le domaine a des implications actuelles, comme dans les frac-tales très africaines ou le jeu bantumi, tandis que les ingénieurs et les informaticiens ont du pain sur la planche, quand ils voient les multiplications yorubas et éthiopiennes.
