The Pourquoi-pas was the most modern and comfortable polar vessel of its time and Charcot built it immediately after returning from his first polar expedition. This volume narrates the voyage of this vessel in 1908-1910 with illustrations throughout.With fifty two plate illustrations. In the original unclipped dustwrapper.Collated, complete. Narrative of the voyage of the "Pourquoi Pas?", Charcot's second French Antarctic expedition on which exploring the Bellingshausen Sea and the Amundsen Sea and discovering Loubet Land, Marguerite Bay, Mount Boland and Charcot Island, which was named after his father, Jean-Martin Charcot. He named Hugo Island after Victor Hugo, the grandfather of his wife, Jeanne Hugo. This Canadian issue is identical to the UK issue expect for the colour of the cloth of the binding. Uncommon in nice condition with little wear.
