The expedition actually took place in 1906. Charcot pursued the more modest aim of continuing the work of his previous expedition and charting the Antarctic Peninsular coastline rather than reaching the South Pole. The expedition returned to Argentina having discovered Marguerite Bay, Fallià res Coast and Charcot Island. Charcot was among the 41 men who went down aboard the Why Not? off Iceland in 1936.
