Not a book but a 12-inch, 33-1/3 rpm stereo vinyl soundtrack record album, Colgems COSO -5005, very-good vinyl LP in a very-good cardboard jacket. Yes, after Cubby Broccoli and Co. had produced four successful James Bond films with Sean Connery -- and introducing the magnificent Ursula Andress -- Charles Feldman managed to convince Colgems (you know -- The Monkees) that he had to run through five directors (including John Huston, Ken Hughes, and Val Guest) to complete this bizarre and overwrought James Bond "parody," starring Woody Allen as James Bond, David Niven as James Bond, Terence Cooper as James Bond, with an additional cast including Peter Sellers, Joanna Pettet, Ursula Andress, Daliah Lavi, Orson Welles, Deborah Kerr, William Holden, Charles Boyer, Jean Paul Belmondo . . . anyway, the soundtrack is of excellent quality, believe it or not. The film made money despite terrible reviews (Time Magazine calling it "an incoherent and vulgar vaudeville.") But this "original soundtrack" album, oddly enough, was regarded by some critics as the finest-sounding LP of all time, famous among audio purists for the excellence of its recording, becoming a standard "audiophile test" record, especially the vocal performance by Dusty Springfield on "The Look of Love." (Though note this copy is NOT "near mint," exhibiting some light scratches which cannot be felt. Also beware of post-1990 re-releases, as the highly regarded master tapes were reportedly damaged during a 1990s remastering.) Produced by Phil Ramone. Reduced from $17.

Sie enthält Stücke aus der ersten (britischen) Solo-LP Springfields "A Girl called Dusty" sowie von britischen und amerikanischen Singles und EPs wie "All cried out", "I wish I'd never loved you", "Can I get a Witness", "Guess who?", "My coloring Book" u.a. Mit der Zeile auf dem Cover "America's newest singing star?, aber die Pop- und Soul-Sängerin (1939-1999) war Britin. Sie wurde wegen ihrer fast schwarzen Soulstimme auch "The White Queen of Soul" genannt und war eine der erfolgreichsten britischen Sängerinnen ihrer Zeit. Sie gilt als Stilikone der Swinging Sixties. Bevor Sie 1963 ihre Solo-Karriere begannn, sang sie zuerst 1958-60 in der Girlgroup "The Lana Sisters", dann gehörte sie gemeinsam mit ihrem Bruder zur Folkgruppe "The Springfields". 1963/64 moderierte sie die ersten Sendungen der legendären britischen Musiksendung "Ready staedy go" und interviewte dabei u.a. die Beatles. 1965 moderierte sie ein Special der Sendung und stellte Soulmusiker des in Großbritanien noch wenig bekannten Detroiter Motown-Sounds vor. 1967 sang sie den Titelsong "The Look of Love" für den Film "Casino Royale", einer James-Bond-Parodie mit David Niven. Später waren ihr Leben und ihre Auftritte zunehmend von Skandalen und einer zeitweisen Drogenabhängigkeit geprägt, bevor sie sich 1972 in den USA niederließ und nur noch gelegentlich neue Alben herausbrachte. Erst 1987 gelang ihr durch die Zusammenarbeit mit den Pet Shop Boys ein Comeback. Sie starb 1999 genau an dem Tag, an dem sie durch die Queen mit dem "Order of the British Empire" geehrt werden sollte, auf Grund ihrer Krebserkrankung hatte sie den Orden aber schon zwei Monate früher durch Vertreter der Queen im Krankenhaus erhalten.
