Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Jacka's Mob - A Narrative of the Great War Edgar John Rule | 14th Battalion AIF | 1999 Military Melbourne Edition An excellent Australian military history and an important account of one of the AIF's most famous First World War battalions. Jacka's Mob is Edgar John Rule's firsthand narrative of his service with the 14th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force, the battalion forever associated with legendary Australian soldier Albert Jacka VC, MC & Bar. Rule served with the 14th Battalion at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, and his account captures the experiences of the ordinary Australian soldiers—their battles, hardships, humour, friendships and losses. This substantial 1999 Military Melbourne edition was compiled and edited by Carl Johnson and Andrew Barnes and greatly expands upon Rule's original 1933 work. It is particularly valuable to military historians, medal collectors and family researchers because of its extensive additional material concerning members of the battalion. Book details Title: Jacka's Mob: A Narrative of the Great War Author: Edgar John Rule Compiled & Edited: Carl Johnson & Andrew Barnes Publisher: Military Melbourne, Prahran Published: 1999 ISBN: 0-646-38803-7 Hardcover with original dust jacket Approximately 240 pages Extensively illustrated Includes extensive information on members of the 14th Battalion AIF Includes a substantial nominal roll Interesting provenance This particular copy bears the ownership stamp: "PROPERTY OF VICTORIAN BRANCH R.S.L." The RSL provenance is an interesting addition to a book devoted to Australian servicemen, although the library markings and associated spine label should be noted when assessing condition. Condition Good to Very Good overall. The book itself presents well and appears clean and sound. The original dust jacket shows some expected handling, edge wear and minor marks. There are former institutional/library markings, including the Victorian Branch RSL / Anzac House stamp, together with a label/tape marking to the lower spine. Please examine photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description. A desirable Australian unit history Jacka's Mob has long been regarded as one of the classic personal accounts of Australian infantry service during the Great War. This expanded edition is especially useful because it combines Rule's original narrative with substantial additional historical and biographical material. A very worthwhile addition to a collection of Australian WWI histories, AIF battalion histories, Gallipoli material, military genealogy or Albert Jacka VC memorabilia.…
