Not a book but a boxed set of three (mono) vinyl LPs with 12X12-inch booklet as well as 25-page libretto in original Italian with English translation side-by side, Met 4-3, mint vinyl in a good-plus flocked box with a 5-inch separation starting at one of the bottom seams but still holding together well. Recorded on broadcast in 1940 but this set apparently released 1977. Here reduced from $17.

Program for a joint recital by Elisabeth Rethberg [her name is misspelt in the program] and Ezio Pinza given at Montclair High School Auditorium, Montclair, New Jersey on January 14th, 1938 as part of the 1937-38 season of the Unity Institute's Unity Concert Course.The German soprano Elisabeth Rethberg [1894-1975] was an opera singer of international repute who was active from the time of the First World War through the early 1940s.Ezio Pinza [1892-1957] was an Italian singer. A bass with a rich, smooth and sonorous voice, he spent 22 seasons at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, appearing in more than 750 performances of 50 operas.

"AMMRE"-Aufkleber auf beiden Labeln (Abkürzung für "Anstalt für mechanisch-musikalische Rechte", diese Institution ging 1963 in der GEMA auf). Der weltberühmte Tenor (1891-1948) war einer größten Stars seiner Zeit, den man in allen Erdteilen kannte und liebte. Wie auch sein Kollege Joseph Schmidt und andere populäre Sänger seiner Zeit bevorzugte er das Sentiment und war wie jener durch Radio und Film einem weitaus größeren Publikum als nur den Besuchern der Opernhäuser bekannt. Er sang viele Operettenpartien und auch der Schlager galt ihm als legitime Kunstform, für die es genauso viel Einfall, Können und Geschmack bedarf, wie für die sogenannte seriöse Musik. Als österreichischer Halbjude durfte er ab 1933 in Deutschland nicht mehr auftreten, ging dann zunächst nach Österreich zurück und emigrierte nach dem Anschluß entgültig nach England, wo er 1948 starb. E. Rethberg (1894-1976) war eine der bedeutendsten deutschen Opernsängerinnen und galt als die beste "Aida" ihrer Zeit. Arturo Toscanini bezeichnete sie 1929 als die "größte lebende Sopranistin". Sie sang 1922 bei einer der ersten Opernaufführungen der Salzburger Festspiele und 1926 die Titelrolle in der Uraufführung von Richard Strauss' Oper "Die Ägyptische Helena". Ab 1922 war sie an der New Yorker Met engagiert, kam aber bis 1939 zu jährlichen Gastspielen nach Europa. Sprache: de.

Elisabeth Rethberg war seit 1915 an der Dresdener Hofoper engagiert und lebte und sang seit 1922 in New York, kehrte jedoch jährlich zu Gastspielen nach Europa zurück. Sie galt als die beste Aida ihrer Zeit und war für Arturo Toscanini die "größte lebende Sopranistin". 1942 nahm sie Abschied von der Bühne.
