Early publication by the award-winning physicist while a National Research Fellow at Yale, published the year after receiving his Ph.D from the same institution. In 1928 Lawrence acce…pted a position at UC Berkeley. Lawrence, a friend of Oppenheimer, is remembered for inventing the cyclotron for which he received the Nobel Prize (1939). Lawrence also received the Faraday Medal and Fermi Award. Lawrence disapproved of Oppenheimer's politics and was supportive of HUAC and the development of advanced nuclear and radiological weapons.
