Recently re-bound in brown half morocco, with raised bands, gilt titles and decoration to spines, and the original publisher's brown gilt-stamped cloth over boards. Toning to edges and margins, with some spotting to engravings and title pages. Spotting throughout 'The Pioneers.' A brown offset mark to pp.6-7 of 'The Pathfinders.' Occasional minor spots and marks throughout. Very good. An epic series set in the Iroquois area near New York over the lifetime of Natty "Hawkeye" Bumppo, from the mid eighteenth century up to the early nineteenth, and one of the first truly American literary creations. This is the first American edition to feature illustrations.
