Quarter leather. 1st edition. 1st Edition, 8vo, original embossed cloth boards, gilt dec, colour frontis (Costume of Persians) with tissue guard, all edges gilt, pp.491, school prize plate (1864) fep, re-backed in red morocco with gilt title and decoration to spine, lacking both maps, otherwise in very good condition and a very fine binding A beautifully rebacked copy of the first edition in English. A translation of Joseph Philippe Ferrier's original manuscript, a French soldier and later Adjutant General with the army in Persia (present day Iran) from 1839 to 1842 and again in 1846 to 1850.

Decorative spine with title and author on it. On the tips of 2 of the corners the leather is worn off, and the small peice of leather that covered the top edge of the spine is missing as well. Decorative marble boards and end sheet inside the covers, and decorative marbled page edges. Previous owner's gift inscription on a blank ensheet. Folded map in the back of the book.
