Aggiungi al carrelloCloth. Condizione: Near Fine. Rowland Wheelwright (illustratore). A limited edition print of Fielding's comic novel Tom Jones. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. With sixteen colour plate illustrations by Rowland Wheelwright. Limited edition, number 707 of one thousand copies published for sale in England. Signed by Rowland Wheelwright, illustrator. The History of Tom Jones, A Foundling is a comic novel by the playwright and novelist Henry Fielding. It is both a Bildungsroman and a picaresque novel. Alongside Samuel Richardson's Clarissa, Tom Jones is one of the first works of prose describable as a novel. Although the novel is lengthy, it is highly organised. Coleridge argued that it has 'three most perfect plots ever planned.' It is generally regarded as Fielding's greatest book. In original brown cloth binding with gilt stamped detailing to the boards and spine. Externally, excellent with minor shelfwear. Offsetting to endpapers, worse to rear. Frontispiece is slightly disbound at the bottom of page, otherwise firmly bound internally. Pages are very bright and clean. Near Fine. book.
