Externally, generally smart with rubbing to the spines and joints. A few marks to boards. rubbing to spines is mostly to the head and tail. Small chips to spine labels. Cracks to the joints of volume I resulting in the front hinge being weak and rear hinge tender. Cracks to the tail of both joints to volume II. Hinges to volume II are tender. Lacking front endpapers to volume I. Engraved title page has been damaged to volume I, lacking the top portion affecting readability. Prior owner's inscription has been coloured over to engraved title page. Small ink spill to the head of final twenty pages of volume I, not affecting text.
