paperback. Condizione: Acceptable. Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.…

Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: Very Good - See Description. First Edition. 1924. First edition. xiv, [i], 248pp., a frontispiece and 54 black and white illustrations (all listed are present). Florence May Gladstone (1855-1928) was a water colour artist and local historian for Kensington, London. The present book is probably her best-known work and is a history of Notting Hill, formerly a hamlet on rural land until the expansion of urban London during the 19th century. As late as 1870, even after the hamlet had become a London suburb, Notting Hill was still popularly referred to as being in Middlesex rather than in London. It contains the following chapters: Chenesitun and Knotting Barns, Kensington Gravel Pits and Northlands, In the 18th Century, During the 1830s, The Peaceful Hamlet of Notting Hill, Kensington Park, Notting Dale, The Bayswater End and Portobello Road, Portobello Road and Kensal New Town, and St. Charles's Ward. There is also a list of chief books of reference and a comprehensive index. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered bevelled boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The book is in very good condition and has been re-backed with the original spine laid onto new blue cloth. The boards have some shelf wear with light soiling and wear to the cloth on the corner tips. The original laid-on spine is darkened with some damage and small pieces missing from both ends. The contents are tight and the original endpapers have been retained. The pages are clean with very slight age-browning to the page margins and one or two light marks from finger smudges. A name has been written on the front free endpaper.…
