Stiff blue endpapers with the front and rear endpapers showing some of the names used on the wooden packing crates. Half title. Frontis piece. 20 figures both partial and full page. Tipped in same of paper. One folding illustration. As new but without the separately issued box. The printer originally issued the book in a letter press edition of 40 copies. This edition sold out very quickly and it was decided to reissue the much in demand book in a very high quality but less expensive lithograph facsimile. The facsimile edition was limited to 92 copies and is also now out of print with only the occasional copy appearing in the out of print market. The book details the making of Aurora Australis, which was the first book written, printed, illustrated and bound in Antarctica, during Sir Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod Expedition, 1907-9. The original Aurora is the Jewel in the crown for any Antarctic collections with around 65 copies known. This FACSIMILE EDITION of the book detailing the production is bound by Roger Grech and Hana Grace Remington in woven cotton Dubletta RAF Blue and the repeat pattern on the boards. The perfect addition for anyone that owns an original Aurora.
