MARKED UP COPY.- Die Untersuchung Garbers ist einer größeren Studie zur Konstitution bürgerlichen Bewußtseins in der arkadischen Dichtung des 17. Jh. vorweggenommen. Sie bindet die Rezeptionsforschung an den konkreten historischen Fall. Opitz ais Protagonist der neuen Kunstdichtung des 17. ih. stellt ein besonders ergiebiges rezeptionsgeschichtliches Objekt dar. Im Rückgriff auf sein Programm hat die Frühaufklärung in Deutschland ihren Entwurf einer bürgerlich-literarischen Öffentlichkeit legitimiert. Noch Herder nimmt den berühmten Namen für ein Konzept einer volkstümlichen, antihöfischen Poesie in Anspruch. Seit den antinapoleoni-schen Freiheitskriegen wird das latente kulturpatriotisch-humanistische Moment seines Werks dann in den Sog des Nationalismus gerissen. Das ganze Spektrum vom radikaldemokratischen Republikanismus bis zur reaktionären Restitution des vorrevolutionären Feudalstaats ist auch in der Opitz-Rezeption wirksam geworden. Die Untersuchung Garbers hebt vor allem die vielfach vergessenen politischen und soziologischen Erkenntnisse zum 17. Jh. hervor und konfrontiert sie mit den Zeugnissen nach 1848, in denen sich ein zunehmender Verfall historischen Bewußtseins dokumentiert. 9783476003430 ISBN 3476003434.
