Condizione: new. ALL UK PARCELS SENT TRACKED! ALL OVERSEAS PARCELS SENT AIRMAIL, TRACKED! (New, Paperback, 2014). 2014 1st edition. Landscape 4to paperback with flaps (256 x 184mm). Pp234. Colour and b/w photographs. Mint new copy. Recollections of deer stalking and big game hunting in New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, the USA, South Africa and Zimbabwe. "If you were to walk into the author's trophy room and silently start counting the mounted hunting trophies you would reach a figure of forty-five animals on display. The book - the author's fourth - is simply the story of the hunt for each trophy now hanging on the walls of his trophy room, each trophy a continuing memory of so many special and sometimes remarkable days of hunting. It was while hunting in Alaska, away back in 1963, that Gary became a confirmed trophy hunter. In the pocket of his hunting jacket were permits issued by the Alaskan Department of Fish and Game that allowed him one moose, one caribou, one grizzly bear, one black bear, one Dall ram. Before squeezing the trigger on a prospective trophy Gary had to determine that indeed the animal he had in his crosshairs was a fine aged male, for after making a mistake in selection there was no second-chance permit. Long before departing on his once-in-a-lifetime trophy hunt in Alaska Gary read extensively, teaching himself what was internationally considered a trophy of a given species. His 'Alaskan Experience' carried over into his hunting for all future hunts, always seeking the outstanding aged male. And, once a species had been secured the author seldom sought to better a trophy in hand, but instead sought different species in different places, different countries, his trophy hunting being his personal Permit to Travel, often with his wife Sue accompanying him. Gary's dedication to serious trophy hunting carried over into his professional hunting guiding career where daily he sought for his client only the very best to be found. Testimony of this dedication to quality is to be seen in Issue VI Volume 2 of the SCI Record Book of Trophy Animals where nineteen of the Top Twenty-five bull Tahr and sixteen of the Red stag were guided by Gary. Today the author unequivocally supports the formation of the recently established Game Animal Council and fervently hopes that within his lifetime the day will arrive in New Zealand where the average hunter will hunt for trophies not for tally." Gary Joll (with his business partners) purchased Lilybank Station and the pastoral lease that went with it, with government approval, to operate a hunting business. Almost before the ink was dry some sections of the government had changed their mind and tried to stop Gary in his attempts to set up a tourist hunting business, which at its peak generated millions of dollars in overseas earning for New Zealand. As a pioneer of tourist hunting and a dedicated hunter himself this is a very personal story about one man's dream that in spite of the obstacles placed in his way by government departments succeeded and became the model for most of the tourist hunting operations today. Gary was the first president of the New Zealand Professional Guides Association, and has been honoured by Safari Club International on several occasions.

Soft Covers. Condizione: VG. No Jacket. Maps, Photos, Drawings (illustratore). 1st. Every serious hunter of big game dreams of hunting in Alaska. For Gary Joll, a top-line NZ professional hunter, guide and author of one earlier book on hunting in NZ, the opportunity for such a trip began with an invitation from Johnny Luster, of Palmer, Alaska, couched in what Joll described as ". English cum-Indian pigeon grammar," but the message was clear ". you come work for me. I no pay you, you no pay me. You work. You hunt." Afer a year of planning Gary Joll and a companion, Bob Hart, were Alaska bound. Their "work" was to assist Luster with his summer-time horse trekking business, with hunting a down-time sideline. What eventuated is told in Jolls' engrossing and interesting account of the beauties of the Alaskan landscape, the pair's relationship with the extended Luster family circle, their "'work" and the excitement, sometimes dangers, of hunting in the wilds of Alaska. However, this was to provide the pair with two moose, two black bears, a caribou, grizzly bear and a dell ram for their trophy list, to which was added a rare prong-horned antelope and a mule deer when they travelled to Wyoming when their assignment with Johnny Luater ended. For the twon Kiwis this was not a luxury holiday; life in the Alaskan equivalent of the NZ "bush" was isolated, facilities were primative and at times food was on short rations. But, as hunting experience, it was a never-to-be-forgotten adeventure, and one which will give any hunter/reader cause to think "If only." First edition from John McIndoe of 1978, 148 pages, illustrated with numerous b/w photos, chapter head sketches by Jim Wakelin, map on inside face of front cover. The front panel of the card covers carries a colour hunting photo and is lightly creased at the lower corner, internally the book is VG , there are no inscriptions, The rear cover is creased at the lower cormer, which is repeated with decreasing impact for approx the last 20 on so pages of the book, but confined to the lower corners. This is a scarce hunting book. This light book will be posted at cost.
