Taped in at the front end paper is a typed note from a previous owner, Harold Malcolm, a nephew of the author, giving details of his relationship to the author. Harold Malcolm's name is referred to in the book, by the author, as having shot a rare brown or red-breasted snipe, in 1891. In this reference an inked amendment has been made to the Latin name of the snipe, presumably by Harold Malcolm. Archibald Thorburn (illustratore).

This work belongs to the Fur Feather and Fin series and provides valuable information on salmon, with specific chapters offering overview of their natural history as well as guidance on how to fish and cook them. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, smart with some minor handling marks and marginal discolouration of the cloth to the spine as a result of age. Slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Jarrolds & Sons Ltd embossed mark to the front free endpaper. Internally, binding is a touch strained towards the front of the work.
