Diese grosse Schweizer Fotografin, Anthropologin und Sozialistin (1901-1993) dokumentierte über 5 Jahrzehnte hinweg Leben und Kultur vor allem der Lacadonen in Chiapas/ Mexiko und setzte sich bis zuletzt engagiert für diese Kulturen sowie bereits seit den 1950er Jahren auch für den Schutz des Regenwaldes ein.Die Fotografin war zunächst in der SPD, dann in der Sozialistischen Arbeiterpartei (SAP) und der KPD aktiv, bevor sie dauerhaft nach Mexiko ging. Eine Einladung von Paul Merker, sich in der DDR in die Politik einzubringen, schlug sie aus, sie sah nur "graue Gesichter, grau wie das Parteigebäude" (S.139. Traven ("Im Land des Frühlings" etc.) gelesen haben oder durch den zapatistischen Aufstand der EZLN am 1. Januar 1994 aus der Lethargie gerüttelt wurden!
