Il a en charge la "rééducation politique" des officiers français capturés sur la RC 4, lors du repli de la garnison de Cao Bang en octobre 1950, et internés déjà depuis une année quand il arrive. Il a mission d'appliquer aux captifs "la politique de clémence" décidée par le président Hô Chi Minh et de transformer ses officiers français en "Soldats de la Paix", de les convaincre à signer des manifestes Au gré des combats d'autres officiers français viendront grossir les rangs des prisonniers, jusqu'à la chute du camp retranché de Dien Bien Phu, en mai 1954 et leur libération, à Viet Tri en septembre 1954, suite aux accords de paix signés à Genève le 21 juillet 1954. C'est cette période et ce "combat" que relate Ky Thu avec force de documents pour argumenter et étayer ses souvenirs.Ce sont donc les souvenirs et le point de vue d'un patriote vietnamien qui sont ici reproduits.
