1870 Cantoni prese parte all'insurrezione delle Cinque Giornate di Milano ed ebbe l'incarico di organizzare la sollevazione dei giovani delle campagne milanesi. Divenne docente di fisica prima nella Reale scuola superiore e dal 1860 nell'università di Pavia. Non abbandonò mai l'attività politica: venne eletto deputato e nel 1870 segretario generale del ministero della Pubblica Istruzione. Il documento, compilato quando Firenze era capitale d'Italia, rigetta la promozione di Roncaglia ad insegnare nel Regio Liceo di Bologna. Roncaglia, autore di testi teatrali, scritti poetici e memorie, diventerà preside del Liceo Galvani di Bologna. Si aggiunge una carta con intestazione "Si pregano i signori Deputati a voler dare alla Segreteria della Camera le seguenti indicazioni".
