The first French edition of this scarce volume.Published under the 'Research in History and Art' series.Exploring the history of the Marciana Library and in particular its possession of the Grimani Breviary, a significant illuminated manuscript of the Flemish Renaissance.Written by Italian historian Giulio Coggiola, who entered the Marciana Library in 1901 where he was granted to supervise the transfer and reorganisation of the library from 1903-04.With in-text monochrome illustrations.Bound in half crushed morocco with cloth boards. Internally, firmly bound and bright, however volume could use with a sensitive rebinding. Bound in half crushed morocco, with cloth boards. Externally, in need of a sensitive rebinding. Hinges failed, with text block separated from the boards. Front board is detached from spine and rear board. With rubbing to the extremities and fading to the cloth, with the rear board's fading being offset. Marks to the boards, heavier to the rear board. Bookplate from the General Theological Seminary Library in New York to the front pastedown and library check-out card held in pocket fixed to the rear pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. With handling marks to the endpapers, otherwise pages are bright and clean. Fair. book.

The miniatures in the Grimani breviary are variously attributed to Gerard van der Meire, Alexander Bening, Gerard Horebout, Lievin van Lathem, Jan Grossaert, and others. Shipping weight is approximately 300 pounds and will require significaant packing due to the size of the volumes. Good All covers have general wear, some covers missing outer spine, some spines have missing piecces and tearing with pen writing from previous owner. Leather has peeling, Covers have corner/edge damage. Bookblcoks have age toning/discoloration. Interior pages have some age toning and discoloration. Illustrations largely unaffected and otherwise cleaen interior.
