Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Very Good. A tourist guide to the West Gate of Canterbury. This pamphlet of sixteen pages provides a history of this historical structure which was completed in A.D. 1380 and was constructed under the guidance of Simon of Sudbury, who was later killed by a mob for his role in instituting a new tax. This guide to the West Gate was written by Francis Bennet-Goldney (1865-1918). He was an antiquary and served as a member of parliament, and mayor of Canterbury from 1906-1911. He worked to help refugees from the First World War, and his family home was established as a Voluntary Aid Detachment. He was attached to the British embassy in Paris in 1917, and was killed in a car accident in 1918. This copy is in excellent condition. There are some small stains on the front cover and the first page, and some age-related discolouration. The staples holding the cover and pages together have rusted slightly. .
