À travers un parcours théorique et historique particulièrement attentif aux uvres mêmes, Thomas Golsenne décrit puissamment le travail de P. Pinaud illustré par une riche iconographie. Artiste exigeant, ce dernier assume un engagement tout autant esthétique qu'éthique et politique. Il appartient à une génération qui ne veut plus s'excuser de faire « seulement » de la peinture, et qui sent en même temps le besoin de faire des tableaux « autrement ».
